3 - Self-Directed Teams: A Self-Directed Team is a group of people who have been brought together

to create a product or service, solve a problem or operate a unit or a business. Self-directed
teams bring together people with different skills and talents as needed to form a complete work
unit and are therefore able to operate without managerial supervision.

Team Performance Appraisal System: The purpose of "Team Performance Appraisal" is to ascertain
goal attainment, set standards and guide performance. Performance will be appraised each week to
ascertain...

  • Extent production goals have been attained.
  • Ways performance can be improved.

Recommendations for improvement will be implemented during the next meeting. Total output of the entire
team will constitute each team's base performance score.

Team Performance Appraisal: Extent to which performance of the entire team meets established goals
will constitute the base 75% of each teams performance appraisal score. Each team will produce a portfolio
that:

  • Is saved in a way that always makes it available to each team member.
  • Addresses each concept in depth.
  • Includes input from each team member.
  • Is grammatically correct.
  • Is in proper format.

Individual Performance Appraisal: Individual participation ratings of each team member will be based on
extent to which he or she lives up to the "Team Covenant." The following performances will be considered:

  • Attendance (unless previous arrangements made to contribute.
  • Cheerful contribution
  • Assumption of leadership as appropriate.
  • Supports other when they lead.
  • Completes assignments accurately and on-time.

Tasks and Performance Standards

  • Consensus process used to develop Team Covenants: All team members participate in the
    development of a Team Covenant.
  • Total Team Output goals obtained from Management: Team goals will be obtained and each
    team member will signify understanding of the goals to be attained.
  • Team Develops an Action Plan: Each team member contribututes to development of an action
    plan that specifies what he or she must do to attain total team output goals.
  • Total Team Sets Output and Individual Participation performance appraised: Total team output
    will be calculated each Friday. Individual participation will be assessed and an average score calculated
    each Friday. Combined scores will be plotted on a chart for everyone to see.
  • Team Sets Weekly Performance Goals: Each team member understands all goals and the c
    ontribution he or she must make to attain the new total team output goals.

Compensation System: Base salary for each team member will be based on the extent to which the team
meets total team output goals. Individual bonuses equivalent to the percentage each team member exceeds
qualitative and quantitative goals may be earned and will be distributed among team members in accordance
with a procedure which they establish.

Team Covenant:
Each team member agrees to support team efforts by meeting established
individual performance standards.
