is combination
of
knowledge, ethics, standards, a service
motive, and is regulated by a sanctioning
organization.
Knowledge
refers to the
specialized body
of knowledge unique to the profession and
to the effective transmission of this
knowledge.
Ethics
refers to the
moral philosophy of
the individuals in the field.

Standards
can be seen
involving both
ethics and knowledge, as they include
requirements which have been identified
as necessary to become fully qualified in
the field and rules for maintaining these
standards by eliminating unqualified
practitioners and by preventing
unqualified individuals from entering the
profession.
