Identity Theft is increasing
You will be on your own as there is little anyone will do to help you solve this problem.

The Plan: Buy a notebook, log all telephone calls and make notes on each contact. Keep a copy of all correspondence.

File a police report in the jurisdiction where you think the theft occurred. Otherwise Financial firms will not honor your reports or requests.

Call the three major credit reporting bureaus and ask them to place a "Fraud Alert" on your account. (Keep a record of your calls)

Equifax: 800.525.6285
Experian: 888.397.3742
Trans Union: 800.680.7289

You are legally entitled to one free review per year of your credit report. You can do this on-line though you will have to provide some sensitive information such as your Social Security number and the amount of your monthly mortgage payment. Here is the URL: http://www.annualcreditreport.com (Copy this URL and paste it into the address box at the top of your browser if this URL can not be accessed from your computer).

Notify check verification firms if checks were taken. (Keep a record of your calls)

International Check Service: 800.526.5380
Telecheck: 800.927.0755
Certegy Check Services: 800.437.5120

Download the 7 page ID Theft Affidavit and mail completed copies to all three bureaus and to any merchant who has been victimized. Send a certified return-receipt letter to each victimized merchant and summarize each conversation.

Call the state motor vehicle agency, obtain a new Driver's License and have a fraud report attached to your driving record.
